Calories Burned Calculator
How calories burned are calculated
This calculator uses MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) values from the Compendium of Physical Activities. One MET is the energy cost of sitting quietly. An activity with a MET value of 4 means you're burning 4 times as many calories as at rest. The formula is: Calories = MET × weight(kg) × time(hours).
For example, running at 6 mph has a MET of 9.8. A 70kg person running for 30 minutes burns: 9.8 × 70 × 0.5 = 343 calories.
Factors that affect calorie burn
Your actual calorie burn depends on your weight, body composition, intensity, fitness level, and efficiency at the activity. Heavier people burn more calories doing the same activity. Muscular people burn more calories at rest. The calculator provides estimates — actual results vary.
