How to use the percentage calculator

Choose one of three modes: What is X% of Y calculates a portion of a total (e.g., what is 20% of 80?). X is what % of Y finds what percentage one number represents of another (e.g., 20 is what percent of 80?). Percentage change from X to Y calculates the increase or decrease as a percentage (e.g., from 40 to 60 is a 50% increase).

The result shows both the numeric answer and the formula used, so you can see exactly how it was calculated.

When to use each mode

Use What is X% of Y when calculating discounts, tips, commissions, or tax amounts. Use X is what % of Y when you want to know your test score, completion percentage, or market share. Use Percentage change to track growth rates, price changes, or population changes over time.
